The Companion Rug: A Calm Foundation for a Cosy Living Space

If you’re looking for living room rug ideas to create a calm, cosy space, this project is a perfect example. Following on from the dining room we shared earlier this month, we were delighted to revisit this beautiful home in Beaulieu Park to see how the living room had come together.

Living room Rug Ideas - Bringing The Cosy To Christmas

Following on from the dining room project we shared earlier this month, we were delighted to revisit this beautiful home in Beaulieu Park, this time to see how the living room had come together. The same calm, modern design language runs throughout the home, yet each space has been thoughtfully tailored to suit how it’s used.

We love how the right rug has the ability to pull a scheme together, creating a considered foundation that works across rooms and seasons. In the lounge, The Ivory Grey Companion rug by Reza’s provides exactly that, anchoring the space while allowing the architecture, furniture and styling to shine.

“I’d ordered two rugs from different online companies, only to spend another two days waiting for them to be collected and returned when they arrived looking nothing like I’d expected. I was just about ready to give up the search altogether.”

Chosen earlier in the year, the rug continues to work effortlessly as the seasons change. Subtle festive touches sit naturally within the room, demonstrating how a well-considered design choice can feel just as relevant in December as it does in June.

The Companion rug collection proved to be the perfect fit for this living room. Its simple, neutral, Scandinavian-inspired design gently breaks up the tones within the space, while accenting the cushions and soft furnishings, pulling the overall scheme together without overwhelming it.

“After ordering online, it was such a relief to be able to see and feel the samples properly and take them home overnight. As soon as I saw the ivory grey in my space, I knew it was perfect for my scheme.”

Hand-knotted using a luxurious blend of wool and viscose, the Companion rugs use geometry in a clever, understated way. The pattern adds structure and interest, while the neutral palette keeps the room feeling calm and refined.

Available in four colourways and six sizes, up to an impressive 300 x 400cm, the collection offers flexibility for a wide range of interiors. Here, the 170 x 240cm rug sits perfectly beneath the coffee table, adding warmth and texture to the heart of the room.  Thoughtfully selected and positioned by our client, this rug brings cohesion to the living space from summer through to Christmas and beyond.  🤍

MATERIAL FOCUS: Viscose by Reza's

Several bundles of yarn in various natural shades of grey, beige, and white are laid side by side on a textured wooden surface. The yarn is loosely twisted, showcasing its soft and fibrous texture.

Reza’s rugs are known for their exceptional craftsmanship and material quality. Alongside wool, the Companion collection uses high-quality viscose made from bamboo a fast-growing, highly renewable resource sourced from Asia.

Close-up view of tall bamboo stems with varying shades of green and brown, showing their segmented texture. The background is dark and out of focus, highlighting the vertical bamboo stems.
Bamboo can grow up to 23 metres in a single year and doesn’t require replanting, making it an excellent sustainable fibre choice for rugs, textiles and linens. The resulting viscose is beautifully soft, with a subtle sheen that gives the appearance of silk.
A large pile of tangled, multicoloured yarn is stacked on a tiled floor against a wall, with various shades of beige, brown, grey, and blue threads mixed together.

Reza’s employ a specialist colouring technique to create a more robust and durable rug surface. Combined with viscose’s natural qualities, this results in rugs rich in texture and depth, smooth to the touch and often compared to the feeling of walking on velvet.
